Downloading Books
Download court rules and other legal authorities by tapping the menu iconin the upper left-hand corner of the screen, and then selecting Rulebook Library. This will take you to the Rulebook Library, where you can select the content you would like to download to your personal library by tapping on the appropriate icon.
When a rule or statute has been amended, a red circle will appear over the menu icon showing you the number of updates available. Navigate to the Updates tab in the Rulebook Library to download the updates. You will continue to receive updates at no charge for one year from the date of your purchase. You must renew your purchase annually to continue to receive updates. Copyrighted books that are published by edition, such as The Bluebook®, will be updated at no charge until a new edition is published. In most cases, your personal annotations (notes, highlighting and bookmarks) unaffected by the amendment will be preserved pursuant to Rulebook’s proprietary update process.
Your device needs to be connected to the internet to download content; however, once downloaded, you can access all your content without an internet connection.
To delete books you no longer wish to include in your personal library, navigate to the book on your Home screen and swipe to the left on the book’s title. Then, press “Delete.” You may download the book again at no charge during your subscription period.
General Use
Once you have downloaded content and exited from the Rulebook Library, you can begin to use Rulebook by tapping on the books that have populated in your personal library on the Home screen.
Most rulebook functions are carried out by the following simple hand gestures:
Swipe left or right: Navigates from one rule or statute to another in a book.
Double tap: Reveals pin cite for rule and subsection selected.
Press and hold text: Enters text selection mode. In this mode, you can use the two selection pins to select text. Once you have selected the text you desire, you can perform a number of functions for the selected text, such as highlighting, notating, bookmarking, copying, and emailing it.
Press and hold image: Expands image so that you can pinch and zoom.
Hard Swipe right (with your finger starting the swipe to the left of the screen): Takes you to the table of contents for the book you are currently viewing.
Long swipe down from the top of the screen: Reveals the “Find on page” and “jump to” functions.
Swipe left (within the Bookmarks and Notes section): Removes bookmarks and notes from your app.
Swipe left (on home page): Reveals options to add the book to your favorites, see information about the book, or delete the book.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I download books?
A: You download court rules and other legal authorities by (1) tapping the menu icon in the upper left-hand corner of the app; (2) tapping Rulebook Library in the menu list; (3) navigating to the book you would like to purchase; and then (4) selecting the book you would like to purchase.
Q: How do I delete books I no longer want?
A: Delete books you no longer want by swiping left over the book title on your home screen (your personal library) and selecting “Delete.”
Q: Are the rules kept current?
A: Yes! This is the primary reason the Rulebook app was developed—to combine the currency of professional research databases with the convenience and ease of an app. If a rule book you have downloaded to your personal library is amended, you will see a red circle appear over the menu icon of the app. Tap on the menu icon and navigate to the Updates tab of the Rulebook library to download the update.
Q: How do I check to see when a book I own was last updated?
A: You can check a book’s currency by swiping left over the book title on your home screen (your personal library) and selecting “Info.”
Q: Can I download my content on a new/different device without being charged again?
A: Yes. When you log in to a different device with your Rulebook credentials, all your previously purchased books should download automatically. You can also download them manually by navigating to the book in the Rulebook Library and then selecting “Download.”
Q: Can I rearrange the order of my books in my personal library?
A: Yes. Simply tap the up-and-down arrow icon in the top right-hand corner of the home screen (your personal library). Then touch and hold the stacked line icon next to the book you want to move. Drag the book where you want it.
Q: How do I add books to the “My Favorites” category?
A: There are two ways. First, you can swipe left over the book you want to add and select “Add to favorite.” Second, you can tap the up-and-down arrow icon in the top right-hand corner of the home screen (your personal library), hold down on the stacked line icon next to the book you want to move, and drag it to the My Favorites category.
Q: Is there a way I can search for a word on the page I am viewing?
A: Yes. In addition to being able to search your entire library or a book using the search function in the menu, you can search for a word on the page you are viewing by doing a long swipe down from the top of the page, which gesture will reveal the “Find on page” screen.
Q: How do I change my account email and password?
A: Log on to your account at http://rulebook.casemakerlibra.com. Click Edit Profile at the top right-hand side of the screen.
Q: What does the sync button in the menu list do?
A: The sync button manually syncs the app with the server. This will check for rule updates and sync any annotations you have made between the app and the website. The app performs a sync automatically each time it is opened, but the sync button allows you to sync without closing and reopening the app.
Q: What is the multitask button in the menu list? What is the “add” icon on the rule screens?
A: Rulebook allows you to open more than one rule at a time and then toggle back and forth between the rules. To do this, navigate to the rule you want to add, then tap on the “add” icon at the top right of the screen. Then, navigate to the next rule you want to add and do the same thing. Once you have added all the rules you wish, tap on the menu icon and select “Multitask.” This will bring up all the rules you have added and allow you to toggle back and forth between the rules quickly.
Q: Why do you require me to create an account to use the app?
A: It is necessary for you to create an account so that you can view your content on other devices. It also allows you to recover your content should you ever lose your device.
Q: Is there something easy I can do to fix the app if it freezes or is otherwise experiencing some type of glitch?
A: Yes, doing a hard reset of the app will often fix any bug you are encountering. You can do a hard reset of the app by (1) opening the multitask bar, (2) putting your finger on the screen image of the app you want to reset, and (3) swiping up on the screen image to remove the app from the multitask bar.
If this doesn’t work you can try rebooting the device itself. To reboot your device, simply hold down and hold the on/off button until your device powers off. You can then turn your device back on by holding down the on/off button until it turns back on.
Q: Do I need an internet connection to access my rule books?
A: No. Your device needs to be connected to the internet only to download content. Once downloaded, you can access all your content without an internet connection.
